Cleft maxillary hypoplasia presents a significant challenge in Craniofacial surgery and orthodontics , necessitating a multidisciplinary approach for  effective management. This presentation delves into the techniques of osteotomy, distraction osteogenesis and surgical orthodontics, highlighting their role in correcting maxillary deficiencies associated with cleft lip and palate. Emphasis will be placed on preoperative planning, Intra operative technique and post operative care , underscoring the importance of a coordinated approach among surgeons , orthodontist and other allied specialists.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the etiology and growth patterns of cleft-related maxillary hypoplasia and their impact on function and aesthetics.

  2. Identify appropriate timing and indications for intervention, including orthopedic, orthodontic, and surgical management.

  3. Describe surgical techniques for correction of maxillary hypoplasia, such as Le Fort I advancement and distraction osteogenesis, in cleft patients.

  4. Recognize potential challenges and complications unique to cleft maxillary surgery, including relapse and velopharyngeal insufficiency.

  5. Apply a multidisciplinary treatment approach involving surgeons, orthodontists, and speech therapists to optimize long-term outcomes.
