LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the epidemiology and biological behavior of HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma.

  2. Describe the principles and technical aspects of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) in oropharyngeal cancer management.

  3. Identify appropriate patient selection criteria for TORS in HPV-positive disease.

  4. Compare oncologic and functional outcomes of TORS with traditional open surgery and non-surgical treatment modalities.

  5. Recognize potential complications and limitations of TORS and strategies to mitigate them.

  6. Evaluate the role of TORS within multidisciplinary treatment planning, including de-escalation strategies for HPV-associated cancers.
