About the event

This session “Transoral Robotic Surgery for HPV Associated Oropharyngeal Cancer” presented an in-depth review of the role of transoral robotic surgery (TORS) in the management of HPV-associated oropharyngeal squamous cell carcinoma. With the rising incidence of HPV-positive oropharyngeal cancers globally, there has been increasing interest in minimally invasive surgical options that allow precise tumor removal while preserving function. TORS enables access to tumors in the tonsils, base of tongue and other oropharyngeal subsites through the mouth, avoiding traditional open approaches that require large incisions and bone cuts, and often results in reduced morbidity, shorter hospital stays and improved functional outcomes. The presentation explored how TORS fits into multidisciplinary care pathways, offered insights into surgical indications and technique, and discussed oncologic and functional results in select patients with HPV-related disease — highlighting current evidence and practical considerations for clinicians managing this disease in the modern era.
