By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Explain the concept of the “hidden epidemic” of jaw underdevelopment and malocclusion in modern populations.

  2. Understand the environmental, dietary, and lifestyle factors influencing craniofacial growth and airway development.

  3. Recognize the relationship between jaw development, breathing, sleep-disordered breathing, and overall health.

  4. Differentiate genetic versus environmental contributions to craniofacial form and function.

  5. Discuss the public health and clinical implications of altered jaw growth in children and adults.

  6. Apply insights from the book to preventive, early-intervention, and interdisciplinary approaches in healthcare and education.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Author Dr. Sandra Kahn D.D.S., M.S.D. will present the insights in her book. She is a graduate from the National University of Mexico (UNAM) and the University of the Pacifc School of Dentistry in San Francisco, California. She began her work in orthodontics with a specialty in physical anthropology at the University of California in Berkeley focusing her studies on human craniofacial growth and development.
