Ankylosis in the paediatric population can be extremely challenging due to the versatility of the indications and treatment options. There is a checklist called SMART. Dr Ahmed Al Hashmi will explain when and how to use it  for the management of ankylosis in children.

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the complexities of ankylosis in the pediatric population and its impact on jaw function, growth, and facial aesthetics.

  2. Identify indications for surgical and non-surgical management and the role of a multidisciplinary team in comprehensive care.

  3. Describe the SMART checklist and how it guides decision-making for treatment planning.

  4. Recognize potential complications such as recurrence, malocclusion, and restricted mouth opening, and strategies for their prevention and management.

  5. Apply principles of postoperative care, physiotherapy, and long-term follow-up to optimize functional and aesthetic outcomes in children with ankylosis.
