By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Understand the patterns and mechanisms of gunshot injuries encountered in wartime and conflict settings.

  2. Identify immediate life-threatening priorities in the assessment and stabilization of gunshot wound patients.

  3. Differentiate civilian versus wartime ballistic injuries and their implications for management.

  4. Review surgical and non-surgical management strategies for complex soft tissue, vascular, and skeletal injuries.

  5. Recognize challenges unique to resource-limited and conflict environments, including delayed presentation and infection risk.

  6. Apply principles of damage control surgery and trauma systems to improve outcomes in wartime gunshot injuries.

ABOUT THE SPEAKER

Dr Tewodros Tefera (DMD,MDS) is an AOCMF National Faculty, Fellow IAOMS, Fellow AfAOMS, the President of Ethiopian Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ESOMS), Consultant Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeon and the Head of the Department of Cranio-Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery at Yekatit 12 Hospital Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia
