About the event

El evento se centró en el manejo de heridas por arma de fuego en contextos de guerra, un desafío clínico de gran complejidad que requiere planificación quirúrgica, técnicas reconstructivas avanzadas y toma de decisiones bajo condiciones difíciles.

La presentación incluyó casos reales y estrategias prácticas para abordar lesiones traumáticas causadas por proyectiles, con especial atención a las técnicas de acceso primario y reconstrucción escalonada que los cirujanos maxilofaciales utilizan para tratar daños severos en la cara y estructuras óseas profundas.

Uno de los casos discutidos fue el uso de un enfoque transmaxilar Le Fort I para extraer un proyectil alojado en el seno esfenoidal, seguido de una reconstrucción con colgajo submental combinado con colgajo de músculo temporal para reparar defectos faciales significativos secundarios al impacto del misil.

SPEAKER:  Dr Tewodros Tefera (DMD,MDS) is an AOCMF National Faculty, Fellow IAOMS, Fellow AfAOMS, the President of Ethiopian Society of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery (ESOMS), Consultant Oral and Cranio-Maxillofacial Surgeon and the Head of the Department of Cranio-Maxillofacial and Oral Surgery at Yekatit 12 Hospital Medical College in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia


Dr. Tefera will focus on "Gunshot injury during war time"  including a case of a LeFort I transmaxillary approach used to remove a missile from a sphenoid sinus in combination with a submental island flap with temporalis muscle flap used to reconstract a sever facial defect secondary to missile injury.
