About the event

Robson Capasso: Sleep Surgery – Why and Who Needs It (OSA SERIES) is an expert-level online presentation focused on the role of surgical treatment for obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) and how clinicians can determine which patients are appropriate candidates for surgery and why surgery may be indicated as part of a comprehensive OSA management strategy. The session, delivered by Dr. Capasso—Chief of Sleep Surgery and Professor of Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine—reviews the multifactorial nature of OSA and discusses how careful patient evaluation and understanding of individual anatomical-physiological contributors to upper airway obstruction inform treatment selection. Drawing on established clinical and research experience in sleep surgery, the event highlights the circumstances under which surgical intervention can be a valuable option, especially for patients who cannot tolerate or benefit from non-surgical therapies like continuous positive airway pressure (CPAP), and outlines key considerations for surgeons and sleep medicine specialists when recommending surgical care for OSA.
