In this clinically focused session, Ritesh Rajan presents a strategic and innovative approach to the management of temporomandibular joint (TMJ) ankylosis — “Distract First, Release Later.”
TMJ ankylosis presents complex functional, aesthetic, and psychosocial challenges, particularly in growing patients. Traditional surgical approaches often involve ankylosis release followed by reconstruction; however, Dr. Rajan discusses the rationale, biomechanics, and clinical outcomes of performing distraction osteogenesis prior to joint release in selected cases
