About the event

In this comprehensive lecture, Dr. Julio Acero presents the current state of the art in mandibular reconstruction, highlighting contemporary techniques and technological advances that have transformed functional and aesthetic outcomes. The session reviews indications for reconstruction following oncologic resection, trauma, and osteonecrosis, with detailed discussion of vascularized free flaps—particularly fibula, iliac crest, and scapular options—and their selection criteria. Dr. Acero explores the integration of virtual surgical planning, 3D printing, patient-specific reconstruction plates, and guided implant placement to enhance precision and reduce operative time. Emphasis is placed on restoring mandibular continuity, occlusion, speech, swallowing, and facial symmetry. Complication management, long-term rehabilitation, and multidisciplinary collaboration are also addressed, providing attendees with an up-to-date framework for achieving predictable and durable reconstructive outcomes.
