LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this session, participants were expected to be able to:

  1. Describe the key principles in complex facial reconstruction — including patient assessment, defect categorization, and reconstructive goals that balance both functional restoration and cosmetic outcome.

  2. Explain surgical pathways and decision-making strategies — outlining how to choose between local, regional, and free flap options and how multidisciplinary planning influences surgical sequencing and success.

  3. Recognize innovations and emerging techniques — such as virtual surgical planning, microvascular techniques, and integrated reconstructive methods that support improved precision and outcomes.

  4. Apply evidence-based approaches to practical cases — reviewing clinical examples that illustrate common challenges in head and neck reconstructive surgery and how to address them effectively.
