By the end of this session, participants will be able to:
Understand the unique perioperative risks associated with patients undergoing head and neck surgery, including airway, nutritional, and cardiopulmonary challenges.
Identify common medical comorbidities (such as malnutrition, anemia, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, and substance use) that impact surgical outcomes in head and neck patients.
Apply evidence-based strategies for preoperative medical optimization to reduce perioperative complications and improve recovery.
Recognize the importance of multidisciplinary collaboration involving surgeons, anesthesiologists, physicians, nutritionists, and allied health professionals in patient optimization.
Assess and manage perioperative airway and respiratory considerations, including risk stratification and planning.
Integrate perioperative optimization principles into clinical decision-making to enhance patient safety, surgical outcomes, and postoperative quality of life.
