TITLE
Dental Implants in the Compromised Host: CHALLENGES & INNOVATION
TALK INFO
This advanced session explores the complexities of placing and maintaining dental implants in medically compromised patients. As the demand for implant rehabilitation grows among aging populations and individuals with systemic conditions, clinicians must carefully balance risk assessment, surgical planning, and long-term maintenance.
The lecture examines the impact of systemic diseases such as diabetes, osteoporosis, cardiovascular disorders, immunosuppression, and history of radiotherapy or antiresorptive therapy on osseointegration and peri-implant health. Emphasis is placed on evidence-based risk stratification, modifications in surgical protocols, biomaterial selection, adjunctive regenerative techniques, and the role of digital planning in improving predictability. Innovative approaches—including surface modifications, guided surgery, growth factors, and photobiomodulation—are discussed to enhance outcomes in challenging clinical scenarios.
Participants will gain practical insights into minimizing complications, optimizing healing, and delivering safe, predictable implant therapy in compromised hosts.
