COURSE: Advanced Clinical Reasoning for Dentists and CMF Surgeons

TALK INFO

+++ EARN A CERTIFICATE OF COMPLETION AND UP TO 10 ADA CERP CREDITS +++

Think like an expert clinician. Decide with confidence.

This hybrid course on Advanced Clinical Reasoning in Craniofacial Care combines self-paced online modules with a live interactive session to strengthen clinical decision-making that directly impacts diagnosis, treatment planning, and patient outcomes. Designed for surgeons, dentists, physicians, residents, students, and interdisciplinary clinicians, it provides structured training in clinical reasoning applicable across surgical, dental, and medical patient care — particularly valuable for those building clinical judgment early in their careers.

Participants may complete the online component independently to earn a Certificate of Completion. Adding this live interactive session (offered multiple times per year) allows participants to earn up to 10 ADA CERP continuing education credits.

The course emphasizes active learning rather than passive lectures through:

• Concise expert inputs introducing core reasoning concepts

• Guided case-based exercises reflecting real clinical decisions

• Structured reflection tools to strengthen diagnostic thinking

• Practical application tasks linked to clinical practice or training

Participants explore how experienced clinicians approach complexity, manage uncertainty, reduce diagnostic errors, and collaborate effectively in multidisciplinary care.

You can watch the first 8 minutes for free.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

By the end of this course, participants will be able to:

  1. Apply advanced diagnostic reasoning frameworks to complex dental and craniomaxillofacial (CMF) cases.

  2. Integrate clinical findings, imaging, and laboratory data to formulate accurate differential diagnoses in oral and maxillofacial conditions.

  3. Recognize cognitive biases and diagnostic pitfalls that may impact clinical decision-making in dentistry and CMF surgery.

  4. Develop structured treatment planning strategies for medically complex and multidisciplinary cases.

  5. Interpret advanced radiologic and pathologic findings to support clinical judgment and surgical planning.

  6. Prioritize patient-centered decision-making, balancing risks, benefits, and long-term functional and esthetic outcomes.

  7. Collaborate effectively within interdisciplinary teams, including restorative dentists, orthodontists, oncologists, and other healthcare professionals.

  8. Critically appraise emerging evidence and clinical guidelines to inform evidence-based practice.

  9. Communicate diagnostic reasoning clearly to patients and colleagues, enhancing shared decision-making and informed consent.

If you'd like, I can also tailor these objectives more toward oral oncology, orthognathic surgery, trauma, reconstructive surgery, or private practice settings, depending on your audience.
