TITLE
Scott Bartlett: Management of Syndromic Synostosis From Infancy to Adulthood
TALK INFO
This expert webinar with Scott P. Bartlett, MD focused on the long-term clinical challenges in managing syndromic craniosynostosis — a group of complex congenital conditions in which multiple skull sutures fuse prematurely and are associated with genetic syndromes (e.g., Apert, Crouzon, Pfeiffer). Dr. Bartlett discussed how longitudinal outcomes in these patients can change over time, including aesthetic and functional deterioration after early surgery. The session emphasized the importance of extended follow-up through childhood into adulthood to assess evolving craniofacial growth, address mechanical and soft-tissue restrictions, and plan potential reoperations, given reported reoperation rates of up to 28 % in some studies. Participants were guided through evidence-informed strategies and practical insights drawn from Dr. Bartlett’s extensive experience managing syndromic synostosis across the lifespan.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
By the end of this session, attendees were expected to be able to:
Appreciate the complexity of syndromic craniosynostosis and how it differs from non-syndromic forms.
Understand long-term aesthetic and functional outcomes, including factors like abnormal growth, soft-tissue recoil, and mechanical constraints that may influence results after early intervention.
Recognize the need for longitudinal follow-up from infancy to adulthood to accurately assess outcomes and plan timely revision surgeries where necessary.
Discuss evidence-based approaches to surgical planning and timing for cranial vault remodeling and midface advancement in syndromic patients.
Identify multidisciplinary care principles necessary for optimal management across developmental stages
