Comprehensive Management of the Paralyzed Face is an advanced clinical session led by Dr. Tessa Hadlock, a widely respected expert in facial reanimation and reconstructive surgery. This talk offers a thorough and contemporary overview of the evaluation and multidisciplinary treatment of facial paralysis, addressing both functional and aesthetic challenges. Participants will explore evidence-based strategies for diagnosis, nerve repair and grafting, dynamic and static reanimation techniques, and tailored rehabilitation protocols. Emphasis is placed on improving facial symmetry, restoring voluntary movement, and enhancing quality of life for patients affected by various forms of facial paralysis.

SPEAKER: Dr. Tessa Hadlock MD is a facial plastic and reconstructive surgeon and an Associate Professor of Otology and Laryngology at Harvard Medical School. She is board certified in Otolaryngology (by the American Board of Otolaryngology) and in Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery (by the American Board of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery). She is a 1990 graduate of Bowdoin College and a 1994 graduate of Harvard Medical. She interned in general surgery at the University of Chicago Hospitals, followed by residency in Otolaryngology / Head and Neck Surgery at Harvard. Her training included a two year research fellowship in tissue engineering at the Children's Hospital in Boston. She has subspecialty training in microvascular head and neck reconstruction, and since 2002, has been on staff at the Massachusetts Eye and Ear Infirmary, where she directs the Facial Nerve Center in the division of Facial Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery. As a clinician-scientist, she is the author of numerous original articles, invited writings, and non-print materials, and she has an ongoing NIH-funded R-01 research grant titled "The Surgical and Rehabilitative Management of Facial Nerve Injury." Her primary interest is in comprehensive management of the paralyzed face.
