About the event

Segmental osteotomies have become an essential component of modern orthognathic surgery, allowing correction of complex dentofacial deformities that cannot be predictably managed with conventional single-piece jaw movements alone. They are particularly valuable for addressing transverse discrepancies, open bites, arch asymmetries, vertical maxillary excess, and complex occlusal problems while preserving functional stability and facial aesthetics.

Successful treatment requires meticulous diagnosis, precise surgical planning, and close collaboration between the surgeon and orthodontist. Advances in virtual surgical planning, three-dimensional imaging, and fixation techniques have further improved the accuracy, predictability, and safety of these procedures.

In this lecture, Dr. Senthil Moorthy Murugesan will review the current indications for segmental osteotomies and discuss treatment planning, surgical techniques, complication avoidance, and postoperative management. Through clinical cases and evidence-based discussion, participants will gain practical insights into incorporating these procedures into contemporary orthognathic practice.
