About the event
.“Features of OSAS Patients Undergoing Orthognathic Surgery” by René Rojas Sánchez is a clinical session focused on obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (OSAS) and the role of orthognathic (jaw) surgery in managing airway obstruction in affected patients. In this lecture, Dr. Rojas discusses the characteristic craniofacial features commonly seen in OSAS patients — such as mandibular and maxillary deficiencies that can narrow the airway — and how these anatomical traits influence diagnosis and treatment planning. He explores how surgical procedures like maxillomandibular advancement (a form of orthognathic surgery that moves both the upper and lower jaw forward) can enlarge the airway and potentially improve or resolve OSAS symptoms, especially in cases where conventional therapies (e.g., CPAP) have limited success or patient tolerance is poor. The session also highlights the importance of understanding skeletal patterns, midface position, and airway anatomy to identify appropriate candidates for surgery and to optimize functional outcomes.
