About the event

The landscape of skin cancer prevention is rapidly evolving. Beyond sunscreen and routine surveillance, new evidence is reshaping how clinicians identify high-risk patients, reduce cancer risk, and intervene before malignancy develops.

In this timely and practical lecture, Dr. Rachel Reynolds will review the latest advances in skin cancer prevention, including emerging chemopreventive strategies, field cancerization treatments, risk stratification, genetic considerations, and evidence-based approaches for patients with extensive sun damage or a history of skin cancer.

Participants will gain insight into how preventive therapies can reduce the burden of basal cell carcinoma, squamous cell carcinoma, and melanoma, particularly in high-risk populations. The session will also explore the role of dermatologists, surgeons, and primary care providers in creating comprehensive prevention strategies that extend beyond lesion detection and treatment.

As skin cancer incidence continues to rise worldwide, prevention offers one of the greatest opportunities to improve outcomes, reduce healthcare costs, and enhance patient quality of life.

SPEAKER

Rachel V. Reynolds, MD, is Interim Chair of Dermatology at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center and Assistant Professor of Dermatology at Harvard Medical School. She completed medical school at the University of Pennsylvania and her dermatology residency through the Harvard Combined Dermatology Program. She practices medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology and is recognized nationally for her clinical and educational contributions.

Dr. Reynolds serves in numerous leadership roles within the American Academy of Dermatology and has contributed to national clinical guidelines and educational initiatives. In addition to her expertise in general and surgical dermatology, she has a particular interest in skin cancer detection and the care of high-risk patients.

Her lecture will focus on the practical recognition of head and neck skin cancers and the diagnostic clues that help clinicians identify lesions requiring further investigation and treatment.
