In his talk, Dr. Payman Hajiazim delves into the intricate, bidirectional relationship between sleep disorders and pain, examining how each condition influences the other in clinical practice. He discusses the underlying mechanisms linking disrupted sleep and chronic pain, and presents evidence-based strategies for comprehensive management. Through a review of current research and clinical cases, Dr. Hajiazim emphasizes the importance of integrated, personalized treatment approaches to improve both sleep quality and pain outcomes. This session aims to equip clinicians with a deeper understanding of this complex interplay to enhance patient care and long-term well-being.

SPEAKER: Dr. Payman Hajiazim’s journey began with an MD from Tehran University, followed by residency training at SBMU University. His pursuit of advanced expertise led him to complete a fellowship in psychotherapy at the University of Toronto in 2011 and further specialize in sleep medicine by 2014.

In 2015, Dr. Hajiazim joined the University of Calgary as a Clinical Assistant Professor in Psychiatry and Sleep Medicine. A full member of the Hotchkiss Brain Institute and the Mathison Centre, he is certified in Sleep Disorder Medicine and Psychiatry by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada, and recognized as a Somnologist by the European Sleep Research Society.

Dr. Hajiazim is the founder and medical director of the Sleep and Wake Clinic in Calgary, a multidisciplinary center focused on complex sleep disorders. He also leads several clinical trials in insomnia, narcolepsy, and sleep-related conditions, contributing significantly to the advancement of sleep medicine in Canada.
