Orthognathic surgery has undergone significant evolution over the past several decades, driven by advances in surgical techniques, digital planning, fixation systems, and patient-centered care. As the specialty continues to evolve, increasing attention has been directed toward minimizing surgical morbidity while maintaining the precision, stability, and functional outcomes that define successful orthognathic treatment.

Minimally invasive approaches seek to reduce tissue trauma, optimize recovery, improve patient comfort, and enhance esthetic outcomes without compromising surgical objectives. These innovations encompass surgical access, digital workflows, virtual planning, instrumentation, and perioperative management strategies that collectively contribute to more efficient and predictable patient care.

In this lecture, Dr. Orion Luiz Haas will present contemporary concepts and techniques in minimally invasive orthognathic surgery. Through clinical cases and practical examples, he will discuss how modern technologies and refined surgical approaches can reduce morbidity while preserving the accuracy and effectiveness of orthognathic procedures.

Participants will gain valuable insights into patient selection, treatment planning, operative techniques, postoperative management, and the future direction of minimally invasive strategies in corrective jaw surgery.

SPEAKER:

Orion Luiz Haas, DDS, MSc, PhD, is an internationally recognized Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon specializing in orthognathic surgery, facial deformity correction, digital surgical planning, and minimally invasive surgical techniques. He currently serves as a Visiting Scholar in the Division of Sleep Surgery and as an Affiliate within the Department of Otolaryngology–Head & Neck Surgery at Stanford University School of Medicine. His clinical and academic work focuses on minimally invasive orthognathic surgery, maxillomandibular advancement for obstructive sleep apnea, airway-focused jaw surgery, and the integration of digital technologies into contemporary surgical practice.

Dr. Haas completed his Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery training, Master's degree, and PhD at the Pontifical Catholic University of Rio Grande do Sul (PUCRS), Brazil. He subsequently completed a Fellowship in Orthognathic Surgery at Instituto Maxilofacial, Hospital Teknon, and the Universitat Internacional de Catalunya in Barcelona, Spain, under the mentorship of leading innovators in orthognathic surgery.

An active researcher, educator, and international lecturer, Dr. Haas has authored more than 70 scientific publications and has lectured extensively throughout Latin America, Europe, and internationally on orthognathic surgery, virtual surgical planning, facial esthetics, airway surgery, and minimally invasive approaches to dentofacial deformities. His research has focused on surgical stability, soft tissue prediction, virtual planning, airway outcomes, and enhanced recovery protocols in orthognathic surgery.

Through his clinical practice, academic contributions, and international collaborations, Dr. Haas has become one of the leading advocates for minimally invasive orthognathic surgery and patient-centered surgical care, helping shape the next generation of corrective jaw surgery techniques.
