Leticia Lang: Non-surgical management of MRONJ - the role of antimicrobial photodynamic therapy and photobiomodulation.
The management of MRONJ can be very challenging, and surgical treatment is not always feasible, especially to patients undergoing cancer treatment. In this sense, antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and photobiomodulation (PBM) have proven to be important tools in the management of MRONJ.

In this clinical session, Letícia Lang explores advanced non-surgical approaches to managing Medication-Related Osteonecrosis of the Jaw (MRONJ), focusing on two phototherapy-based strategies: antimicrobial photodynamic therapy (aPDT) and photobiomodulation (PBM). MRONJ is a challenging condition that may arise in patients taking antiresorptive or antiangiogenic medications, leading to exposed necrotic bone, infection, pain, and impaired healing. Traditional non-surgical management typically includes antibiotic therapy, oral hygiene, and conservative debridement, but emerging evidence suggests that laser-based phototherapies can provide significant therapeutic benefit as adjunctive tools.
