About the event
In this educational clinical session, Latha P Rao presents an in-depth, systematic approach to the management of panfacial fractures — one of the most challenging forms of craniofacial trauma where multiple facial bones are fractured simultaneously. Panfacial fractures typically involve the upper, middle, and lower thirds of the face and create complex anatomical disruptions that demand meticulous planning to restore both function and appearance. Because of the extensive fragmentation and loss of normal skeletal landmarks, effective surgical reconstruction has been likened to assembling a complex jigsaw puzzle — where each bony piece must be realigned in three dimensions to re-establish facial height, width, projection, occlusion, and soft-tissue harmony. Successful management requires an understanding of sequencing principles (such as “bottom-up/inside-out” and “top-down/outside-in”), careful evaluation of airway and concomitant injuries, and integration of multidisciplinary care to optimize outcomes.
