About the event

Segmental Maxillary Osteotomies – Indications, Techniques and Complications by Larissa Cunha is an in-depth lecture focused on the role of segmental osteotomies in contemporary orthognathic surgery. This presentation explores the clinical indications for segmenting the maxilla, including transverse discrepancies, anterior open bite correction, arch width modification, and complex occlusal deformities that cannot be managed with orthodontics alone. The session reviews surgical planning principles, interdental osteotomy design, preservation of vascular supply, and fixation techniques essential for predictable outcomes. Special emphasis is placed on interdisciplinary coordination between surgeon and orthodontist to ensure adequate root divergence and safe segmentation. The lecture also addresses potential complications such as periodontal compromise, tooth devitalization, relapse, and soft tissue changes, while providing strategies for risk reduction and postoperative management. This session is designed to enhance clinical decision-making and technical precision for surgeons involved in advanced maxillary corrective procedures.
