Gift of the Givers is Africa's largest independent humanitarian organization https://giftofthegivers.org. It was established to offer disaster relief and response, together with other humanitarian work, with the aim to reach people worldwide. 

We are extremely honored to have the founder of Gift of the Givers - Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman as our guest. He will join us to talk about how he founded Gift of the Givers and take your questions. You will also hear from our CMF colleague Dr. Jameel Desai  about the organization, the challenges and rewards of their work, and how you can get involved.

Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman es el fundador y presidente de la Gift of the Givers Foundation, una de las mayores organizaciones de respuesta ante desastres y asistencia humanitaria de origen africano, establecida en 1992 en Sudáfrica.

• Origen y misión: La organización nació de un llamado espiritual que Sooliman recibió en 1992 para servir a todos los seres humanos sin importar raza, religión o condición, proporcionándoles ayuda sin esperar nada a cambio.

• Impacto global: Bajo su liderazgo, Gift of the Givers ha distribuido miles de millones de rands (ayuda valorada en más de R4.5 mil millones) en más de 45 países, respondiendo a terremotos, inundaciones, guerras, hambrunas y crisis sanitarias.

• Valores y enfoque: Su trabajo enfatiza la dignidad humana, la compasión, la rapidez de respuesta y la imparcialidad. La organización proporciona desde ayuda médica y alimentos, hasta acceso a agua potable, educación y rehabilitación comunitaria.

• Reconocimiento: Sooliman ha sido ampliamente reconocido por su labor humanitaria, recibiendo honores civiles y premios tanto en Sudáfrica como internacionalmente.

Su intervención en este tipo de eventos ofrece una reflexión profunda sobre el significado del servicio humanitario y el impacto que una organización comprometida puede tener en las comunidades más vulnerables.

Dr. Jameel Desai está vinculado a Gift of the Givers como profesional médico y voluntario involucrado en misiones de atención en situaciones de crisis y desastres.

• Experiencia práctica: Ha participado activamente como parte de los equipos de respuesta en terreno, proporcionando atención médica en entornos extremadamente desafiantes. Por ejemplo, se le ha observado atendiendo heridas en hospitales desplegados por Gift of the Givers en zonas afectadas por conflictos, como en Siria.

• Compromiso con la misión: Su trabajo representa el espíritu operativo de la organización: médicos y profesionales que no solo planifican la ayuda, sino que la implementan directamente, incluso en zonas peligrosas o de alto riesgo.

Su participación en el evento permitió ilustrar el lado práctico del trabajo humanitario, mostrando historias en primera persona de médicos y equipos que llevan ayuda directa a quienes más lo necesitan.
