For surgeons and other healthcare professionals, understanding the physiological changes associated with menopause is essential for maintaining personal health and career longevity. This lecture will provide an evidence-based overview of menopause, common symptoms, and current approaches to hormone replacement therapy (HRT). Participants will explore the benefits, risks, indications, and misconceptions surrounding HRT, while gaining practical insights into individualized treatment strategies that support healthy aging and optimal quality of life.

SPEAKER

Dr. Deborah Gomez Kwolek, MD, is an Associate Professor of Medicine at Harvard Medical School and Senior Physician at Massachusetts General Hospital, where she serves as Founding Director of the Women’s Health & Menopause Program. She is a nationally recognized leader in precision medicine, menopause care, and personalized hormone therapy, with a strong academic and clinical focus on the biological determinants of health, healing, and long-term outcomes. Dr. Kwolek is widely regarded for her expertise in translating cutting-edge research into practical clinical strategies that enhance patient safety, optimize recovery, and improve outcomes across medical and surgical disciplines. She lectures extensively at national and international meetings and is deeply committed to advancing evidence-based, patient-centered care through education, innovation, and interdisciplinary collaboration.
