About the event
Towards Integrating Immunotherapy into the Treatment of Locally Advanced HNSCC is an advanced clinical and scientific session led by Dr. Bryan Bell, focusing on the evolving role of immunotherapy in the multidisciplinary management of locally advanced head and neck squamous cell carcinoma (HNSCC). This talk provides a current overview of the underlying immunobiology of HNSCC, the rationale for incorporating immune-based treatments alongside surgery, radiation, and chemotherapy, and the latest clinical trial evidence supporting the use of immune checkpoint inhibitors and other immunomodulatory approaches. Participants will gain insights into patient selection, biomarkers of response, strategies to overcome resistance, and the challenges and opportunities in optimizing treatment sequencing and combinations to improve survival and quality of life for patients with advanced disease. The session bridges foundational science with real-world clinical application, highlighting emerging trends and future directions in immuno-oncology for head and neck cancers.

SPEAKER: Dr. Bryan Bell, MD DDS FACS FRCS(Ed) is globally known head and neck cancer surgeon and researcher. His work has been published in more than 150 scientific articles and book chapters. In addition, he is co-author of two major textbooks, including "Oral, Head and Neck Oncology and Reconstructive Surgery".
His clinical practice is focused on the comprehensive surgical management of patients with head and neck cancer, including tumors of the oral cavity, oropharynx, larynx, thyroid and skull base. Along with his clinical practice, Dr. Bell currently holds a number of leadership positions. He is the Physician Executive and Director, Division of Surgical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Clinical Programs for Providence Cancer Institute Oregon. In addition, Dr. Bell is the Medical Director of the Providence Head and Neck Cancer Program, and Member and Director of Surgical Oncology Research at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute in the Robert W. Franz Cancer Center, a division of the Providence Cancer Institute. Dr. Bell provides vision, leadership, strategy and oversight for all clinical oncology programs and surgical oncology research throughout the Oregon region.
