Basel Sharaf: The Deep Plane Facelift - A Paradigm Shift in Facial Rejuvenation

SPEAKER

Basel Sharaf, MD, DDS, FACS is Professor of Plastic Surgery at the Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science, with a joint appointment in the Department of Clinical Anatomy. He serves as Practice Chair of the Center for Aesthetic Medicine & Surgery and is a Consultant in the Division of Plastic Surgery at Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota.

An internationally recognized leader in craniofacial reconstruction, microsurgery, facial transplantation, orthognathic surgery, and patient-specific surgical planning, Dr. Sharaf has dedicated his career to advancing precision reconstructive surgery through innovation, translational research, and multidisciplinary collaboration.

Following dual degrees in medicine and dentistry, Dr. Sharaf completed advanced training in oral and maxillofacial surgery, plastic and reconstructive surgery, craniofacial surgery, and microsurgery at internationally renowned institutions. His clinical practice focuses on complex facial reconstruction following trauma, cancer, congenital anomalies, and vascularized composite allotransplantation (facial transplantation).

Dr. Sharaf has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and book chapters, lectures extensively throughout the world, and is internationally recognized for pioneering advances in precision craniofacial reconstruction and facial transplantation.
