Abhinand Potturi: Surgery First vs Conventional Orthognathic Surgery - Which Approach Is Right for Your Patient

About the event
The advent of the Surgery-First Approach (SFA) has challenged many of the traditional principles of orthognathic surgery. By eliminating presurgical orthodontic decompensation, surgery-first protocols promise immediate facial improvement, shorter overall treatment times, and enhanced patient satisfaction. However, questions remain regarding case selection, treatment stability, orthodontic complexity, and long-term outcomes.
In this thought-provoking lecture, Dr. Abhinand Potturi will critically compare Surgery-First and Conventional Orthognathic Surgery, examining the advantages, limitations, and evidence supporting each approach. Through clinical cases and outcome analyses, participants will gain insight into patient selection, treatment planning, interdisciplinary collaboration, and postoperative orthodontic management.
The session will explore how evolving digital workflows, virtual surgical planning, and skeletal anchorage systems have expanded the indications for surgery-first protocols while highlighting situations where conventional treatment remains the preferred option.
Attendees will leave with a practical framework for deciding which treatment strategy best serves individual patients and clinical circumstances.
