About the event

This session tackles one of the most challenging dilemmas in trauma care: how to manage a mangled extremity—a limb with severe combined injury to bone, soft tissue, nerves, and vessels—when faced with the choice between amputation and limb salvage. Dr. Al-Saadan discusses the clinical and surgical considerations that influence this high-stakes decision, highlighting that while limb salvage may preserve independence and improve quality of life, it often involves complex reconstructive procedures and prolonged rehabilitation that may not always yield superior outcomes. The talk explores the pros and cons of both pathways and stresses careful individualized assessment rather than one-size-fits-all decisions
