Milind Naik: Orbital Decompression Surgery

WHAT IS THIS EVENT ABOUT?

Orbital decompression with a three-wall approach is conducted in instances of pronounced proptosis associated with thyroid eye disease. The challenge lies in the constrained visibility and the expansion of soft tissue, particularly for less experienced surgeons who may find identifying bony landmarks challenging.  The presentation covers essential aspects like periosteal incisions, standard neurovascular encounters, and valuable tips for ensuring secure bony decompression. By doing so, it facilitates a clearer understanding of what is typically a complex and visually demanding surgical procedure. 

SPEAKER: Dr. Milink Naik is an expert in  cosmetic and reconstructive surgery of the eyelids and face. Dr Naik  completed his DNB in Ophthalmology in 2001 from Christian Medical College, Vellore, one of the premiere Medical college in India. He then obtained training in Eye Plastic Surgery (Oculoplasty) at LV Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad. Oculoplasty refers to plastic surgery around the eyes, such as eyelid disorders, tear duct (lacrimal) surgery, orbital tumors, injuries, cosmetic surgeries around the eye and face, as well as thyroid eye disease.
