About the event

Even in the most experienced surgical hands, orthognathic surgery and maxillomandibular advancement (MMA) can present unexpected challenges. Complications, suboptimal outcomes, and difficult revisions are part of the reality of complex craniofacial surgery — yet these cases often offer the greatest learning opportunities.

In this candid and highly educational session, Dr. Stacey Quo explores when orthognathic and MMA surgery does not go as planned. Through real clinical cases, she will discuss diagnostic pitfalls, surgical planning errors, intraoperative surprises, healing complications, and long-term functional or aesthetic issues. Importantly, the focus is not only on what went wrong, but how these situations were managed, corrected, and ultimately transformed into valuable clinical insight.

Designed for oral and maxillofacial surgeons, orthodontic collaborators, and airway-focused surgical specialists, this session provides practical strategies to anticipate complications, optimize interdisciplinary planning, and improve patient communication when outcomes are uncertain.

Open discussion and shared experience are encouraged. Join us for an honest conversation about surgical complexity, humility in practice, and the continuous learning that defines excellence in craniofacial surgery.
