TRAIN WITH WORLD-LEADING FACULTY
A rare opportunity to engage directly with internationally recognized leaders in surgical education, complex decision-making, and craniofacial care:
Maria J. Troulis, DDS, MSc - Harvard Medical School / Harvard School of Dental Medicine
Walter C. Guralnick Distinguished Professor of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery and surgeon at Beth Israel Deaconess Medical Center. Internationally recognized for her expertise in craniofacial trauma, operative sequencing, and complex reconstruction. A leader in surgical education and former residency program director and department chair, she has shaped generations of surgeons in high-level clinical decision-making.
+++ PRIVATE. INTERACTIVE. HIGH-LEVEL +++
This is not a lecture. This is a closed, mentored masterclass focused on advanced decision-making in complex craniofacial trauma.
COURSE OVERVIEW
Secondary reconstruction following severe facial trauma presents a distinct set of challenges beyond the acute phase. Patients often present with residual deformity, functional impairment, scarring, and altered anatomy following prior interventions.
This masterclass focuses on decision-making in delayed and revision reconstruction, where standard algorithms are no longer sufficient and clinical judgment becomes critical.
Through a highly interactive, case-based format, participants will work directly with faculty to analyze complex secondary trauma cases, with emphasis on:
• Re-establishing facial symmetry and skeletal relationships
• Management of malunions, nonunions, and soft tissue deficits
• Restoration of occlusion, airway, and functional outcomes
• Strategic sequencing of revision procedures
• Balancing aesthetic and functional priorities in previously operated patients
EDUCATIONAL APPROACH
This masterclass is designed as a high-level discussion environment, emphasizing:
• Small-group mentorship (maximum 10 participants)
• Case-based analysis of real-world secondary reconstruction challenges
• Open, expert-led discussion of alternative strategies and decision pathways
• Application of principles to participants’ own cases
Participants are expected to actively engage and contribute to discussion.
WHO THIS IS FOR
This masterclass is designed for clinicians seeking to refine their approach to complex reconstruction:
Early-career surgeons - Develop structured approaches to revision cases and complex reconstructive planning.
Residents and fellows - Gain exposure to advanced clinical reasoning typically acquired through years of experience.
Practicing surgeons - Refine decision-making in secondary reconstruction, including management of complications and suboptimal prior outcomes.
Selected advanced trainees and students with a strong interest in craniofacial surgery and reconstructive principles.
LEARNING OBJECTIVES
Upon completion, participants will be able to:
• Analyze challenges unique to secondary and revision craniofacial reconstruction
• Define functional and aesthetic priorities in previously treated patients
• Develop structured sequencing strategies for complex revision cases
• Evaluate reconstructive options in the setting of altered anatomy and scarring
• Anticipate complications and optimize long-term outcomes
• Apply interdisciplinary, case-based reasoning to complex trauma reconstruction
