About the event

Reconstructive hand surgery frequently involves high-stakes decisions where multiple surgical options exist and outcomes depend on precise judgment. This lecture focuses on recognizing pivotal decision points and applying structured approaches to surgical planning in complex hand reconstruction. Using case-based examples, participants will refine their ability to balance anatomy, function, timing, and patient-specific factors to achieve durable, functional results.

SPEAKER

Dr. Krystle Rae Tuaño, MD, is an Instructor in Surgery at Harvard Medical School and an attending surgeon at Massachusetts General Hospital in Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and Hand and Upper Extremity Surgery. She combines extensive experience in training and supervising residents and fellows, curriculum development, and mentorship with peer-reviewed scholarship on fellowship education and training trends, including pandemic-era impacts and structural and leadership factors shaping surgical training. Her work in academic surgery, national professional societies, and trainee development positions her to speak compellingly on mentorship, leadership, and modern training models relevant across surgical disciplines.
