About the event

In this advanced surgical lecture, Kavitha Ranganathan, MD, explores the brow lift as a reconstructive tool, not merely a cosmetic procedure. Drawing on her academic work and clinical experience in craniofacial reconstruction, the session reframes brow elevation within the context of trauma, tumor resection, facial nerve injury, and secondary deformity correction.

The lecture integrates anatomical considerations, surgical approaches, and outcome-driven decision-making to help surgeons select the appropriate technique and timing for brow elevation. Emphasis is placed on restoring symmetry, function, and durable results while minimizing morbidity. Participants will gain insight into how reconstructive priorities shape technique choice and patient selection in both primary and secondary craniofacial cases.

SPEAKER

Kavitha Ranganathan, MD, is a plastic and reconstructive surgeon specializing in craniofacial reconstruction and complex facial surgery. She serves as Director of Craniofacial Reconstruction and is an Assistant Professor of Surgery in the Division of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

Dr. Ranganathan’s academic and clinical work focuses on the restoration of facial form and function following trauma, oncologic resection, and congenital or acquired craniofacial deformities. Her scholarly contributions emphasize anatomy-driven reconstruction, thoughtful surgical timing, and durable outcomes in facial and craniofacial surgery.

As an educator and invited speaker, she is recognized for translating reconstructive principles into practical surgical strategies, highlighting how procedures traditionally viewed as aesthetic—such as the brow lift—play a critical role in comprehensive craniofacial reconstruction.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

At the conclusion of this activity, participants will be able to:

  1. Describe brow anatomy and its relevance to reconstructive and craniofacial surgery.

  2. Differentiate aesthetic versus reconstructive indications for brow lift procedures.

  3. Select appropriate brow lift techniques based on etiology, anatomy, and timing.

  4. Apply reconstructive principles to optimize functional and aesthetic outcomes in complex facial cases.

TARGET AUDIENCE

  • Plastic and Reconstructive Surgeons

  • Craniofacial Surgeons

  • Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeons

  • Facial Plastic Surgeons

  • Residents and Fellows in Plastic Surgery, OMFS, and Craniofacial Surgery
