About the event

Thinking about incorporating 3D printing into your surgical or dental workflow—but not sure where to start? Join us for a practical and interactive session on how to set up your own in-office 3D printing lab tailored for surgical practices. Led by an experienced surgeon and digital workflow expert, this event will walk you through the step-by-step process of establishing a reliable, cost-effective, and regulation-compliant printing lab for surgical guides, anatomical models, splints, and more.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

By the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  1. Identify the essential hardware components for an in-office printing lab, including suitable printers, scanners, and post-processing tools.

  2. Evaluate software options for surgical planning and understand key open-source platforms.

  3. Determine appropriate materials and indications for 3D printing in clinical practice, including what to avoid.

  4. Plan an efficient and safe physical setup for an in-office printing lab.

  5. Integrate the full digital workflow from scan acquisition to final printed model.

  6. Analyze real-world case examples of successful in-office 3D printing implementations.

  7. Recognize common challenges in setting up and operating an in-office printing lab and apply strategies to avoid them.

TARGET AUDIENCE

This course is designed for:

  • Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons, Dental Surgeons, and Craniofacial Surgeons who want to implement in-office 3D printing to enhance surgical planning and patient care.

  • Surgical Residents and Fellows looking to build foundational skills in digital workflows and 3D printing, especially those in resource-constrained settings.

  • Healthcare Professionals and Practice Owners in both high-resource and low- and middle-income countries (LMICs) seeking scalable, cost-effective solutions to reduce outsourcing and improve in-house capabilities.

  • Clinic Managers, Digital Workflow Coordinators, and Lab Technicians responsible for integrating new technologies into clinical environments.

LEAD FACULTY: Dr. Cecília Pereira-Stabile, DDS, MSc, PhD, FBCOMS, is a renowned oral and maxillofacial surgeon recognized for her deep expertise in orthognathic surgery and 3D planning. A graduate of the Federal University of Pelotas (2003) and board-certified by the Brazilian Federal Dental Council (2006), she further honed her academic and clinical credentials with a Master’s and PhD from the prestigious State University of Campinas (UNICAMP), followed by an international fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh (2008–2009).
