About the event

In this expert-led session, Anthony Morlandt presents the principles, planning strategies, and clinical execution of Jaw-in-a-Day reconstruction, drawing directly from his peer-reviewed publications and high-volume clinical experience.

The lecture explores how advanced virtual surgical planning enables simultaneous tumor ablation, osseous reconstruction, and immediate dental rehabilitation. Emphasis is placed on workflow integration, sequencing of ablative and reconstructive steps, accuracy of execution, complication avoidance, and functional outcomes. Participants will gain practical insight into patient selection, flap design, implant positioning, and interdisciplinary coordination required to achieve predictable results in complex mandibular defects.

SPEAKER

Anthony Morlandt, DDS, MD, is a board-certified oral and maxillofacial surgeon with advanced training in head and neck oncologic and microvascular reconstruction. He is a Professor at UAB, holds dual doctoral degrees in dentistry and medicine and has built an academic and clinical career at the intersection of ablative surgery, reconstruction, and digital innovation.

Dr. Morlandt is widely recognized for his leadership in Jaw-in-a-Day mandibular reconstruction and for advancing the clinical integration of virtual surgical planning, immediate dental rehabilitation, and microvascular free-flap surgery. He has authored and co-authored numerous peer-reviewed publications in leading surgical and cranio-maxillofacial journals, with a focus on surgical accuracy, workflow optimization, outcomes analysis, and multidisciplinary reconstructive strategies.

As an academic surgeon and educator, Dr. Morlandt is a frequent invited speaker at national and international meetings. His teaching emphasizes evidence-based decision-making, reproducible surgical workflows, and close collaboration among surgeons, prosthodontists, and engineers to improve functional and patient-centered outcomes in complex mandibular reconstruction.

  1. Explain the core principles of Jaw-in-a-Day reconstruction as described in contemporary OMFS literature.

  2. Apply virtual surgical planning concepts to coordinate resection, reconstruction, and dental rehabilitation.

  3. Identify key factors influencing accuracy, efficiency, and outcomes in single-stage mandibular reconstruction.

  4. Recognize indications, limitations, and complication-management strategies associated with Jaw-in-a-Day workflows.
